School bus in a collision

Monday, Jan. 8 at approximately 3 p.m., Caledon OPP and emergency services responded to a motor vehicle collision on Mayfield Road, just east of Heart Lake Road in Caledon.

The collision involved an eastbound passenger car and a westbound school bus. Preliminary investigation revealed that the passenger vehicle crossed over the centre line and collided with the school bus in the westbound lane.

The driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old female from Brampton, was transported by ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The female bus driver was not injured and of the 40 high school students on the bus, four were transported to hospital with very minor injuries. Fortunately, the remaining students did not sustain any injuries.

Mayfield Road was closed between Dixie Road and Heart Lake Road for the investigation but was re-opened at 4:35 p.m. the same day.

The investigation is continuing. Any further witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the investigation officer Sergeant Krug of Caledon OPP, 905-584-2241.
