E-mail Fraud "If it is predictable it is preventable." Crime prevention involves the anticipation, recognition and assessment of a crime and the action taken to remove the possibility of it occurring or reduce the chances of it occurring. Hopefully, through education and awareness we will be able to identify email frauds, telephone frauds and door-to-door scams. The most recent warning - an e-mail has been circulating which appears to be issued by the Department of Finance-Canada. The e-mail states, "You are eligible to receive a tax refund of $112.80." The e-mail requests that to receive the refund you must complete and submit a refund request form, which requires personal information. The e-mail looks authentic, but in fact is not. Asample of the bogus email can be viewed at the following - http://www.fin.gc.ca/fraude .html. Be aware, be cautious, take your time and always make informed decisions. |
