Bolton arterial route's construction to start by April
By ALAN LICZYK

The construction of the Bolton arterial route along Coleraine Drive from Mayfield Road to King Street is expected to begin by April, Caledon council was told by staff last Tuesday.

The final step prior to construction was the expropriation of the remaining six properties and permanent easement on Coleraine Drive.

Nadia Koltun, director of legal services, told council 88 properties were required to be acquired which involved taking eight metres from each side of Coleraine Drive. She said the Town has acquired all of the properties but the last six which will be owned by the Town within two weeks. She pointed out, though, this doesn't mean the end of the compensation process.

Kolton added construction trucks could be out on Coleraine Drive in April.

The widening of Coleraine Drive from Mayfield Road northerly to King Street will include four lanes of pavement (each 3.75 metres wide) and two side shoulders (each 2.5 metres wide) plus open storm ditches along each side of the road. Coleraine Drive will also have left-turn lanes at intersections with other roads to facilitate turns without interfering with through traffic.

"This long-delayed project needs to get under way," said Councillor Richard Whitehead. Mayor Marolyn Morrison said they've been working on this for two years. "We're working on the short strokes," she said.
