Roth Diamond Tool minor bantam Hawks continue to impress

Roth Diamond Tools minor bantam AE Hawks rang in the new year at Mayfield Jan. 4.

Their foes from Brampton came in on a high note and capitalized on one of their few chances in the first to take the lead. In the second the Brampton lads kept pace with the Hawks who killed a penalty and started to establish physical dominance. As the period waned Christian Bonaldi freed the puck up to Michael Magliocchi, who drove to the net and deposited the Hawks' first goal top corner. In the third the Hawks controlled the play and were rewarded off an offensive zone face off win by Giancarlo Cianflocca with the puck gliding to David Rothfuchs who hammered home a hard low shot. The scoring was rounded out on a fine individual play by Christian Bonaldi who stick handled to the slot and roofed the insurance marker. Nathan Cole guarded the cage securing the 3-1 Hawks victory.

Caledon 4,

Waterloo 2

Roth Diamond Tools completed play in 2006 with two games before Christmas.

The first was Dec. 21 versus the top ranked Alliance Waterloo Ice Wolves.

The game started well for the Caledon crew just two minutes in when Brandon Richard rifled home a low shot with assistance from Tyler Symonds. At the midpoint of the first Chris Scrivo scored a beauty with help from Bonaldi. In the second the Ice Wolves howled with a goal of their own. The reply came from Giancarlo Cianflocca assisted by Ryan Rausch. As the second closed out the feisty Wolf Pack counted again to tighten things up. In the third the Hawks started to move the puck with more authority and were rewarded when Symonds found the mark with assists to J.T. Gore and "The G Man" Cianflocca. Nathan Cole had a strong game stopping 19 shots backstopping the Hawks to a 4-2 win.

Rangers downed

On Dec. 23, the Hawks travelled to Kitchener to face the Rangers.

The first was a sluggish affair with neither side finding much room in the small arena. In the second the wiley Cianfloccca found some space in the slot and wired home the first goal with the helper to Gore. On the same shift Cody Ruff got the puck deep into the offensive zone where Gore fired a perfect feed to "one time" Rausch who notched goal two. Late in the period it was a blistering point shot by Symonds off the perfect draw from Cianflocca. Early in the third some staunch penalty killing by Chris Scrivo freed up the puck for Brandon Richard who finished with authority. The Rangers managed to get one back spoiling the shutout for Nathan Cole.

In the waning moments Christian Bonaldi worked the puck back to David Rothfuchs whose blast flew the net and bounced back to Captain Gore with the final tally.

The boys cruise into Christmas with an impressive 18-4-4 regular season record.
