Updated zoning bylaw now in effect in Caledon

Identified as a Caledon Community Work Plan objective, the Town of Caledon's new Zoning By-Law 2006-50 is now officially in effect.

The new comprehensive Zoning By-Law 2006-50 establishes the framework to effectively meet immediate and long-term development regulation objectives and requirements. Since the creation of the municipality's last zoning bylaw in 1988, there have been substantial changes both in land use planning in Ontario, and how development is regulated in Caledon. As a result, sections of the previous by-law had become redundant or outdated. Two guiding principles for the new by-law included no rezoning of specific properties, and no removal of existing use permissions.

Zoning By-Law 2006-50 includes the following improvements and changes:

A "User's Guide" facilitates navigation through the document, identifying regulations and provisions applicable to specific properties; updated and improved zone maps with a key map for easy reference; a new "Parking, Loading & Delivery Standards Section" includes revised industrial and commercial parking requirements, making Caledon significantly more competitive with neighbouring municipalities; primary zones are organized by major land use type (residential, commercial and industrial); "Permitted Uses" and "Development Standards" are presented more efficiently through the use of tables.

The zoning bylaw is now available at www.caledon.ca. If you have specific questions about the zoning bylaw or would like to obtain an electronic or paper copy, please call the Town of Caledon's Planning & Development Department at 905- 584-2272, ext. 4228.
