Local groups benefit from Trillium grants Community organizations in Peel and Caledon will receive beneficial community grants from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). "Ontarians live better lives thanks to the valuable services charitable and notfor profit organizations provide in their communities," said Minister of Culture Di Cocco. "By investing in community organizations, the foundation helps bring people together, address local needs and improve service and infrastructure. Year after year, OTF continues to play a vital role in building healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario." "Behind each of these grants is an important project or organization committed to community growth and development," said Ed Upenieks, grant review team chair. "Funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation ensures that many different interests and needs are being met in the community." OTF strengthens the capacity of the volunteer sector through investments in community-based initiatives. The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Ministry of Culture, receives $100 million annually from Ontario's charity casino initiative. Caledon and Peel recipients include: The Bolton Tennis Club will receive $73,500 over one year to remove and replace the surface of these well-used community tennis courts, providing a safe and pleasant facility where tennis can be enjoyed at a recreational level. B r a m p t o n - C a l e d o n Orchestra will receive $22,300 over one year for speciality percussion instruments, sheet music and equipment. Promotional activities will be supported and a small fee given to the conductor so more young people can afford to explore music in an orchestra setting. Catholic Family Services of Peel-Dufferin will receive $230,000 over four years to help increase the organization's profile and revenue-generation capacity, helping it to enhance its service capacity for the growing number of individuals and families in need in the Region of Peel. The Kerr Log House Feasibility Project (Caledon Heritage Foundation) will receive $25,000 over six months for a cultural heritage, resourcemanagement feasibility study to determine the viability of redeveloping the historic two-storey Kerr log house as a community centre in Caledon. Regional Diversity Roundtable (Social Planning Council of Peel) will receive $207,000 over three years to help develop and implement strategies and activities that will assist human services organizations in Peel in building diversity competence and a more effective and culturally appropriate service-delivery system. |
