Ambulance service in Peel receives funding

The provincial government is providing an additional $3,254,251 in 2007 to support and strengthen land ambulance and dispatch service in the Region of Peel. The funds will help further the goal of attaining the 50/50 sharing of costs of municipal land ambulance services by 2008.

In 2001, the previous government downloaded responsibility for land ambulances onto municipalities. This funding announcement is the second phase of the current government’s commitment and will help make good on the government’s promise to invest $300 million in land ambulance services in Ontario.

The Region of Peel benefits from the dedication of more than 300 full-time and part-time paramedics, highly trained and skilled men and women working for the benefit of the citizens of Peel and visitors to the

Region. Peel Regional Paramedic Service has five Supervisor Response Vehicles, two Emergency Support Units, one Supply and Support Unit, and 32

frontline ambulances. The service responds to more than 65,000 calls for service each year.

“This investment acknowledges the explosive

growth experienced by the Region of Peel and will enable our government and municipal partners to maintain the high standard of land ambulance services

that currently exist in our community,” said Linda Jeffrey, MPP Brampton Centre. “The people of Brampton and the Region of Peel deserve nothing less.”
