The peewee AA Caledon Hawks spent the afternoon of Dec. 11 with the residents of the King Nursing Home. The players from the team organized a hockey game for the residents that involved them using pool noodles as hockey sticks and a balloon as a puck.
A few residents were courageous enough to try their hand at the game and before everyone knew it, the pool noodles were flying and the balloon was bouncing around the room. After many saves by the two awesome goalies (Edna and Irene), Audrey finally scored a goal. The game ended with a 1-0 score and a good time was had by all. The fans were waving their pom poms and waving their We are #1 signs cheering on their favourite team.
The Hawks players assisted the residents by keeping the balloon in play and refereeing the game to make sure their was no high noodling or roughing with a pool noodle.
After the game, the players and the residents enjoyed some card games, checkers and snacked on the many treats supplied by the moms of the team. The Christmas carols were playing and two lucky ladies had the honour of dancing with two players (Jake Rumboldt and Jake DeBiasi).
The team thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were pleased to get into the Spirit of Christmas.
