Minor atom AAs in the win column with solid efforts The minor atom AA Tri- Star Landscaping/Just in Time Caledon Hawks came out on fire Nov. 23. Meeting the tough team from Stoney Creek was an exciting challenge as a previous game had produced a scoreless tie. The Caledon Hawks coaching staff watched in amazement as their boys (and girl) played possibly their best game of the season to date. The first Hawks’ goal came from defenceman Jordan Kreller, who surprised the Stoney Creek goalie with a long shot from just inside the blue line. Conner Morror and Tyler Whitten did the leg work. A perfect pass from Morro and accurate shot from Whitten resulted in the Hawks’ second goal at 4:43 of the first period. Jordan Bokla sunk the next Caledon goal with Nando Sirianni and Nicky Curro being the helpers. Whitten got his second goal of the night assisted by Morro and Nottle with 31 seconds remaining in the second period. Nottle then sealed the Caledon win with a goal in the third, assisted by Morro. While goalie Joseph D’Amico supplied another solid game between the pipes for his team, increased speed, accurate passing and great team play were obviously key ingredients to this big win. Avalanche melted The following Thursday night home game against Ancaster Avalanche put the Hawks into the win column again. Christian Hauck gained possession of the puck late in the first period, made a pass to Jesse Fir who took the shot. Hauck soared by the net and poked in the rebound. Ancaster tied up the game in the second period but Fir redirected a long shot from Jordan Kreller to go ahead 2-1. While Ancaster was struggling with a string of penalties, the Hawks continued their scoring ways. Nicky Curro displayed Gretzky-style offence when he carried the puck around the back of the net and wrapped around, sinking it into the net. Nando Sirianni and Jordan Bokla set up the play. Fir then scored his second of the night from a pass from Hauck. While the Hawks were shorthanded, Curro once again surprised Ancaster with a breakaway and then a deke that left the goalie shaking his head. Fir completed a hat trick from a passing play with Lukas Richardson and Jordan Kreller. Hauck got the last Caledon goal with assists going to Nicholas Amato and David Pillsworth. Hawks goalie Spencer Boyd stood tall and strong in the net that night and the final score was Caledon 7, Ancaster 2. Raiders downed The Hawks visited Georgetown Raiders on Tuesday, Dec. 5th and returned home 5-2 winners. Once again Georgetown officiating made the game interesting and the Hawks had a bit of a slow start. Georgetown was on the scoreboard first with a controversial goal while an injured Hawk player lay on the ice. Later in the period, Nicky Curro was able to break away from a crowd, stealing the puck and making a quick pass to a trailing Fir, who sunk the first Caledon goal. Hauck waited patiently out front until Pillsworth and Amato could get the puck to him then slid it past the Georgetown goalie for the next goal. Richardson sent Hauck skating who then made a pass over to Fir for the third one. Curro received a wide pass from Hauck, and angled in to score the fourth Caledon goal. Nottle finished up with a top-shelf shot from a play with Bokla and Justin “JD” Donatelli, who has been trying out a new position on defence. Tie with Battalion Two nights later on home ice, the Hawks hosted the Brampton Battalion. After getting down by three goals before the first period ended, the Hawks finally got on the scoreboard when Hauck scored from Fir and Whitten late in the second period. Hauck put his team back into the game with a second goal with an assist coming from Amato. The Hawks never-give-up attitude shone through when they appeared to tie the game with just over a minute left in the third period. Amongst jeers from the home fans, this goal was called off due to an apparent unheard whistle from the linesman. Then, with 15 seconds left on the clock and a face off to the right of the Brampton goalie, the persistent Hawks gave it their all. Conner “Cubby” Morro evened the score with Whitten assisting in a scrambled play in front of the net. Final score was a 3-3 tie in this exciting comeback for the Hawks. |
