Peel receives $2.8 million in partnership

The Government of Ontario is providing the Region of Peel with $2,865,283 under the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF).

This additional funding recognizes the most current information on the usage of the Region of Peel’s social programs and policy costs and will allow the Region of Peel to provide support directly where it is needed.

In the past Peel was not eligible for OMPF funding, but the Ministry of Finance recognized that the share of social program costs within

the greater Toronto area have increased to a level where Peel now qualifies.

The Ontario Municipal Partnership fund is only one part of the larger commitment to help strengthen our community.

Other initiatives include:

* Gas tax funding for public transit.

* Move Ontario which provides funding for municipal roads and bridges.

* Sharing the cost of municipal land ambulance services.

* An increase in the province’s share of public health funding from 50% to 75% by 2007.

“Investing in our community and the people that live in them has been a priority for our government.

This funding is a tangible recognition of the huge growth our community has experienced in the last few years,” said Linda Jeffrey, MPP Brampton Centre.
