Roth Hawks down Timber Wolves, split with Rangers Roth Diamond Tools minor bantam AE Hawks hosted Waterloo Timber Wolves Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Mayfield Rec complex. Depleted by injuries and suspensions the Hawks got some much-needed help from their AP players Taylor Elkins, Warren Stroud and Michael Bellisario. The first period started at a torrid pace. The Hawks struck first as Brandon Richard deposited a nice goal with help from Tyler Symonds and Giancarlo Cianflocca. The Timber Wolves responded two minutes later off a fine passing play. With two 2:06 remaining J.T Gore freed the puck up for Cam Miller who found Christian Bonaldi in front for a one-time lamp lighter. In the second period the battle continued and Caledon received a string of penalties surrendering two short handed goals. As the second wound down David Rothfuchs fed his defensive partner Nolan Pearce who carried the puck down the ice and drove to the net hard finding the reward as the puck found an alley through the bewildered goaltender. In the third the play flowed back and forth until Cam Miller hustled in deep on a hard forecheck forcing the turnover and delivering another feed to CCM linemate Christian Bonaldi who notched his second of the contest. Finally again around the two-minute mark of the last period Caledon struck again this time off a determined solo effort by captain J.T. Gore. Nathan Cole was strong between the pipes backstopping an exciting 5-3 victory. Hawks split
with Rangers
Roth Diamonds Tools closed out November with a home game against the Oakville rangers. Oakville lit the lamp at the half-way mark of the first. The Hawks got even on a goal late in the period by Christian Bonaldi assisted by Michael Magliocchi. The Rangers pulled ahead with the only goal in the second period and added two more in the third against a lackluster Hawks squad. James Harkins added a late goal for the Hawks with help from Tyler Symonds but the game ended Oakville 4 Caledon 2. December 6 the Hawks motored to Oakville for the back half of the home-andhome. In a slow-paced first period the only goal was counted by Giancarlo Cianflocca unassisted on a nice rush. In the second the Hawks pressed and counted the only marker again off the stick of James Harkins from J.T. Gore and Cody Ruff. In a third period of inexplicable officiating and rather nasty play from both teams the Hawks notched a pair of goals. The first was off a heads up neutral zone steal and breakaway goal by Cam Miller. The second featuring slick puck handling by Brandon Richard also unassisted. The star for Caledon was Nathan Cole recording a well earned shutout. The Caledon crew recorded the 4-0 victory to strengthen their grip on first place in the Harrison loop. Go Hawks! |
