Game one Friday night saw our boys facing off against loop rivals Kitchener Rangers. The Hawks were flying early as Cameron Miller passed to Christian Bonaldi who found Michael Magliocchi in the slot for the first goal. Then it was Giancarlo Cianflocca to Tyler Symonds to J.T. Gore for the finish. The Rangers potted one at 2:41 only to be answered with a laser point shot from Nolan Pearce with assists to Ryan Rausch and James Harkins.

In period 2 the Hawks dominated but couldn’t pad their lead. Early in the third Giancarlo Cianflocca scored a beauty unassisted. The “G man” followed up with another solo effort at 5:32. Kitchener gamely responded but Christian Bonaldi sealed the deal with help from linemates “Maggs” Magliocchi and Cam Miller with two minutes remaining. Nathan Cole danced between the Caledon pipes for the 6-2 victory.

Saturday morning our Hawks faced off against the TNT Tornadoes. Again the boys had the early jump with Giancarlo Cianflocca notching the first goal assisted by Brandon Richard. TNT could not cope with the Caledon speed and racked up a long string of penalties resulting in four consecutive power play goals. J.T. Gore from Cody Ruff, Tyler Symonds from Cianflocca,Chris Scrivo from Richard, and Cianflocca from David Rothfuchs put The Tornadoes under the weather.

In the second the onslaught continued with Magliocchi unassisted, Gore from Symonds and Rausch, and finally Giancarlo with his hat trick with helpers from Rothfuchs and Chris Scrivo. Rounding out the scoring in the third period was Symonds with a power play goal from James Harkins.

Cole recorded his first shutout of the year in the 9-0 quenching of TNT.

Saturday night dialed up Georgina. No goals were recorded in a tight-checking first period.

Early in period 2 Magliocchi found his buddy Cam Miller behind the net and Miller deposited the disc on the wrap around. With the flood gates open Caledon attacked. Ryan Rausch drilled one home off the nice feed from James Harkins. Thirty seconds later it was Cianflocca off the pass from Brandon Richard. Finishing off the four goal second was Scrivo top corner with assists from Cianflocca.

In the third Richard hammered one home with assists to linemates Cianflocca and Scrivo. Rausch finished the Hawks scoring from Harkins.

Cole recorded his second shut out to post the 6-0 victory.

Sunday morning in the semifinals the competition went up a few notches as the Hawks squared off against The Lawfield Lightning (Hamilton). Opening the scoring was Giancarlo Cianflocca from Chris Scrivo. Lawfield responded with a break-away goal of their own. Midway through

the second the Hawks regained the lead on a fine solo effort from Brandon Richard short-handed.

During a string of penalties in a brutal second period Lawfield tied the game up on a five-on-three powerplay. In the first minute of the third period Michael Magliocchi and Cam Miller took control physically freeing the puck up to Symonds who cruised through the bodies to zip a dandy to the twine. Two minutes later Richard put on a stick handling clinic and maneuvered in for an unassisted marker. With 1:29 remaining the “Bolton Rocket” Richard slammed home the hat trick goal with assistance from Scrivo and Cianflocca.

Cole battled hard in the cage behind the 5-2 win for a trip to the finals.

Sunday afternoon brought about the dream match up of two loop leading teams Caledon Hawks versus the Barrie Colts. The Hawks played a strong first period but a few costly turnovers and a bad bounce left Barrie with a solid 2-0 lead behind their stellar keeper.

In the second the Hawks played their best period of hockey this season outshooting the Colts 19-1. The reward for hard work occurred mid period when James Harkins finally struck paydirt off the feed from Scrivo and Magliocchi. A minute later Cianflocca rammed one in with assists to Richard and Symonds. With 45 ticks remaining Bonaldi found the top corner with help from J.T. Gore and Magliocchi.

Into the third and at the 10:20 mark Symonds powered to the net and drilled one off the set up from Cianflocca and Miller. Barrie notched their third goal at 4:05 to draw within one. Cole held the line the rest of the way behind the solid defensive core of David Rothfuchs, Cody Ruff, Nolan Pearce and Symonds and the juggernaut backchecking of the Hawks forward units.

The Caledon Hawks claimed gold with the 4-3 victory.

Giancarlo Cianflocca was tournament MVP with 8 goals, 6 assists and an impressive plus 15 rating.

Thanks also to stalwart backup goaltender Taylor Elkins from the Caledon Blackhawks. Making this all the sweeter was the return to the ice surface (assisted by coaches Rick and Andrew) of Alessandro Ristucci to claim his trophy along with injured teammate Marco Chiechi (get well soon boys). An impressive display of hockey skills and team play. Go Hawks!
