Serious injury in Highway 9 collision

Thursday, Dec. 7, at approximately 8:12 a.m. Caledon OPP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 9, just west of St. Andrew’s Road in the Town of Caledon.

A grey Dodge pickup truck was traveling westbound on Highway 9, when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the icy roadway. The vehicle spun into the eastbound lanes and was hit on the passenger side by an eastbound Honda motor vehicle.

Caledon Fire & Emergency Services reports due to the nature of the injuries and entrapment, additional assistance was required. Caledon and Orangeville firefighters used power rescue tools to remove both the driver and passenger from the front seats of the Honda Civic, and also assisted Peel EMS with patient care.

Both occupants of the Honda were airlifted to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre with serious leg injuries. The driver, a 23-year-old male from Milton was airlifted from the scene and the passenger, a 53-year-old male was airlifted from Headwaters Hospital. A 50-yearold Caledon female driving the pickup truck was transported by ambulance to Headwaters Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 9 was closed between Airport Road and Horseshoe Hill Road while Caledon OPP and OPP Technical Collision Investigators conduct their investigation but was re-opened at approximately 11:30 a.m. Any further witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the investigating officer, Constable Andrew Kinapen at 905- 584-2241.
