Dorado Stars swimmers make Canada's top 50 age group rankings

The Dorado Stars Swim Club held their second annual awards banquet Oct. 22 at the Caledon Community Complex in Caledon East. Throughout the evening, awards were presented to the Dorado Stars swimmers for their achievements in the 2005 and 2006 swim season.

Twenty swimmers received certificates of recognition for being ranked top 50, top 25 and top 10 in Canada in various swimming events based on their appropriate age groups.

Recipients of the Canada top 50 awards were Emily Hryb, Jessica Koutsomichos, Parvir Basra, Bavindeep Basra, Sienna McDougall, Zachary Montesano, Lauren Beals, Aidan Zagar, Irene Depacina, Stefano Gardiman, Tyler McFarlane, Myles Zagar, Alana Colgan, Kristina Stojadinovic, Grace Wilkinson, Jennifer Heron, Hannah Cassidy, Esther Haines and Paige Miller.

Recipients of the Canada top 25 awards were Jessica Koutsomichos, Brittany Macfarlane, Tyler Macfarlane, Zachary Montesano, Aidan Zagar, Sienna McDougall, Lauren Beals, Irene Depacina, Bavindeep Basra, Stefano Gardiman, Alana Colgan, Kristina Stojadinovic, Grace Wilkinson, Jennifer Heron, Esther Haines and Paige Miller.

Recipients of the Canada top 10 awards were Aidan Zagar, Zachary Montesano, Stefano Gardiman, Lauren Beals, Alana Colgan, Kristina Stojadinovic and Esther Haines.

Awards were also presented in the overall high point category for female and male swimmers in each appropriate age category: Irene Depacina (girls 10 and under), Kristina Stojadinovic (girls age 11), Alana Colgan (girls age 12) Esther Haines (girls age 13 & 14), Kendra Colgan (girls age 15), Myles Zagar, (boys age 11), Luca Rapan (boys age 12) and Mark Bechtel (boys age 15).

Recipients of the Most Improved Athlete in the 2005-2006 season were Brittany Macfarlane, Bavindeep Basra, Grace Wilkinson, Andrew York, and Simon Beals. Spirit award recipients were Sabrina Di Cosola, Lauren Beals, Esther Haines, Andrew York, and Hans Porter.

The Stars are proud recipients of a 2006 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant and swim out of the Mayfield Recreation Complex in the Town of Caledon. The club provides quality competitive swimming opportunities for the promotion of sportsmanship, friendship, self-esteem and the achievement of personal goals.
