Caledon minor atom AA Hawks at London tourney

The Caledon minor atom AA Hawks team packed up their gear and suitcases and traveled to London to participate in the annual Tim Hickman Memorial Thunder tournament on the weekend of November 17.

The early morning game against the top London Gold team ended up in a 1-1 tie. Goalie Joseph D'Amico held his team in there and Jordan Bokla played a very strong game, getting the Hawks goal and the MVP award for game one.

Later in the afternoon, the Hawks met the Hamilton Reps. Bokla got the first goal, assisted by Nando Sirianni and Jordan Kreller. Nicky Curro scored next, helped out by linemates Whitten and Morro. In the second, Tyler Whitten took a pass from Sirianni and sent Caledon ahead 3-1. Nicky Curro had a speedy rush resulting in another goal.

Whitten fired in a shot early in the third and Bokla got the final goal to end the game 6-5 for the Hawks. Tyler Whitten was named MVP for this game.

The Rochester team was as strong as reported in this no body-checking tourney and beat the Caledon boys 5-0 very early Saturday morning. Mitchell Duggan was the standout player for the Hawks and was rewarded with the MVP mention.

In a must-win situation, the Hawks met the Humberview Huskies. The Huskies held a 1-0 lead until the third period when Caledon tied the game with a goal from Morro, assisted by Nicholas Amato and Laura Magliocchi. Humberview was ahead a goal when Jesse Fir rushed to the opposing net, and directed a beautiful pass from Bokla past the goalie to once again tie up the game. Hauck's low shot right on the ice, again from a pass from Bokla got the win for the Hawks.

Fir received the MVP award. The possibility of being the advancing wild card team was left in the hands of another team who had to get a win. It was not to be, and the boys had to settle with the four games played.

Although not completely successful, the minor atom AAs gained good hockey learning experiences this weekend and had plenty of fun!
