First religious article store opens Sacred Hearts Gifts religious articles and goods will hold its grand opening Friday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. at its location at 9 King St. West in downtown Bolton. Owner Heather Heath-Abraham has been involved in spiritual work most of her life as a volunteer. She wasted no time after moving to Bolton eight years ago, volunteering in the schools, praying with and teaching the grades 2-8 students to make rosaries. This year, she enlisted the assistance of Robert F. Hall and St. Cornelius schools, which joined Holy Family, Pope John Paul II and St. John the Baptist schools in making more than 2,000 rosaries for disabled and developmentally challenged orphans in India. She was also active in several ministries of Holy Family Church, including choir, Eucharist minister and lay reader at the weekday masses. This was not her first endeavor locally. She started the Eucharistic Ministry and one-on-one visits to shut-ins in their homes when she moved to Bolton, which continues through the Pastoral Care Committee, as well as the St. Vincent de Paul Society, of which she was president, helping the poor and needy in the community. She also volunteered for Caledon Community Services and the Santa Fund, Chez Thrift and the Re-u-store. Heather and her her family have been volunteers at the Good Shepherd Refuge in Toronto for more than 15 years. Heather saw a need for this type of store in Bolton, as residents have had to travel to religious stores in other cities to purchase a variety of spiritual gifts, including prayer cars, rosaries, statues, medals, crucifixes, frames, tapestries, prayer books, bibles, etc. She looks forward to serving the residents of Caledon and surrounding communities with their spiritual needs. |
