Polls nearly split in Ward 1 area race

The top two contenders for Ward 1 area councillor in the Nov. 13 municipal election were almost evenly split when it came to the 13 polls in their riding.

Doug Beffort won the race with an official count of 1,250 votes to 907 for Tim Forster and 307 for John Martin, but he just edged Forster seven to six in the number of polls won.

Beffort won polls 103, 105, 108, 109, 110, 111 and 113 while Forster took polls 101, 102, 104, 106, 107 and 112.

Beffort's best result was in Poll 105 where he collected 186 votes to Forster's 38 and Martin's 10.

Forster 's biggest gain was in Poll 101 where he garnered 116 votes to 78 for Beffort and 42 for Martin.

In the race for Ward 1 regional councillor, incumbent Councillor Richard Paterak easily beat former

councillor Jim Pattison with an official tally of 1,467 votes to 957 for Pattison.

Paterak won 11 of the 13 polls. He was most dominant in Poll 101 with a 112- vote margin of victory, beating Pattison 164-52. Pattison's two poll wins came in polls 106 and 112.
