Polls very even in Ward 3/4 regional race

The poll results were quite close in the three-way race for regional councillor in Wards 3/4 in the Nov. 13 municipal election.

Former regional councillor Richard Whitehead regained his seat after gathering a combined official total of 1,513 votes from the two wards, edging out incumbent Councillor Nancy Stewart who received 1,443 votes and Tony Viola who tallied 1,071 votes.

Stewart came out ahead in Ward 3 with 390 votes to 303 for Whitehead and 177 for Viola. She won three of the four polls. She cleaned up in Poll 302 with 121 votes to 59 for Whitehead and 31 for Viola.

Whitehead won Poll 304 with 77 votes, slightly ahead of Stewart's 75 votes and the 54 votes Viola received.

In Ward 4, Whitehead came out on top with 1,210 votes to 1,053 for Stewart and 894 for Viola.

Whitehead and Viola each won six polls in Ward 4 while Stewart won four polls. Whitehead finished ahead in polls 402, 407, 409, 411, 412 and 413, Viola took top spot in polls 403, 405, 408, 414, 415 and 416. Stewart won polls 401, 404, 406 and 410.

It wasn't much of a contest in the race for Ward 3/4 area councillor. Incumbent Councillor Nick deBoer tripled the vote over opponent Don McNeil by gathering 2,854 official votes to McNeil's 944.

DeBoer won Ward 3 with 636 votes to McNeil's 187 and he also won Ward 4 with 2,218 votes to McNeil's 757.

DeBoer won all four polls in Ward 3 and all 16 polls in Ward 4. His biggest win in Ward 3 came in Poll 302 which he took by a 167- 30 count. His best result in Ward 4 was 190-29 triumph in Poll 409.
