Arnold-Judge back to work as school trustee Caledon's public school trustee wasted no time in getting back to work after being re-elected Nov. 13. Valerie Arnold-Judge said she was in meetings all week at the Peel district school board where she'll be starting her fourth term of office. She won the election after receiving 4,240 votes. She outpaced Stan Cameron who took 3,146 votes, as well as Donna Hynes with 1,088 votes and C. Josefine Scott with 499 votes. "I feel good," Arnold- Judge said. "I'm glad it's over. It was a long trail." She was confident she would win, but she wasn't complacent about it. She went door to door and worked for it. She added she devoted herself full time to the job. She noted the Peel board will have a lot of challenges. A number of additions to schools are planned including a 10-room addition to The Humberview school in Bolton. Nine of the 12 board members were re-elected. The three members not returning didn't run again. Arnold-Judge said she'll be working with the Toronto Argonauts program called Huddle Up Against Bullying and she'll continue supporting the DARE program in schools. During the campaign she heard voters talk mostly about transportation issues. The board had a big shakeup because bus routes were changed and it doubled up with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic district school board on routes. The major problems in Caledon for students are distance and the lack of sidewalks to walk to school. Another issue Arnold- Judge has been working with Mayor Marolyn Morrison and Caledon OPP on is the vandalism that's gone on in the park behind The Humberview. They've tried to get the kids to be more respectful of the park. She liked the new electronic voting system Caledon used for the first time in the municipal election. "I thought it was really good," she said. She was disappointed, though, none of the television stations showed the trustee results. She to go online on her computer to find them. |
