Bolton's Scale wins Department of National Defence photo awards The winners of the 2006 Department of National Defence Photography Contest were selected Oct. 12. Of the 972 photos submitted for this year's contest, the judges selected approximately 80 (from first place to honourable mention) to both professional and amateur photographers in each of seven categories: Environment, Family Life, Military Life, Open, Portrait, Special Effects, and Sports. Professional photographer Lisa A. Scale, of Bolton, military spouse whose husband serves at Land Force Central Area Headquarters in Toronto, was extremely successful. Scale received the following awards for her submissions. First Place, Professional Portrait category, for Heaven Sent. First Place, Professional Family Life category, for A Day at the Air Show. Second Place, Professional Special Effects category, for Mary. Third Place, Professional Portrait category, for Special Delivery. In addition, she was awarded Photographer of the Year - Professional and received Best of Show - Professional for Heaven Sent. November 20, the winning photos will be placed on display at National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ), in Ottawa, as part of the contest's ceremonial opening. The Deputy Minister of Defence will officiate the ceremony and invites DND and NPF,CF from the region to attend. The winning photos will remain on display at NDHQ until Nov. 26. This year's contest was made possible due to the generosity of its corporate sponsors, who donated product and cash prizes: Hewlett- Packard (HP), Nikon, Amplis Foto, Rololight Corp, Dynamix, Canon, and Valcom. The contest is organized by the CF Joint Imagery Centre and the CF Personnel Support Agency (CFPSA), to encourage the creation of imagery which depicts the many aspects of life in the military and to recognize those members of the DND/CF community who have attained a level of excellence in the art of photography.
