Roth Diamond Hawks sputter, earn two ties

Roth Diamond Tools minor bantam Hawks faced off against the Brampton Battalion Oct. 26 at Mayfield. On this night the sluggish home side spotted a fired-up Brampton squad three first-period goals.

In the second, the Caledon lads started to skate and Giancarlo Cianflocca counted their first marker unassisted. Six minutes later "The G Man" found the mesh again with the assist to Brandon Richard. As time wound down Brampton struck back to regain their two goal advantage. In the third the Hawks continued to press. Tyler "The Moose" Symonds drilled a point shot home off the clean draw of Cianflocca. As time was running short Cam Miller dragged the puck from traffic in the slot feeding James Harkins who slid pass the tender to deposit the equalizer.

No more goals meant this contest ended with a tie. Unfortunately the Hawks lost their nifty right-winger Alessandro Ristucci in the waning seconds due to a broken leg. The team, parents and sponsors wish Al a speedy recovery.

Tie with Wolves

Two nights later the Hawks journeyed to Waterloo to face the league leaders Ice Wolves. With both the injury bug and suspended players plaguing the team the early part of this game was choppy and undisciplined.

In the second the Wolves tallied two goals and seemed to be in control. But as we have seen all season the late going favours these Hawks. With a minute and a half remaining in the second Richard fired one home off the spade work of Miller and Cianflocca. A little more than half-way through the third Richard danced in on the breakaway and fired another top corner to tie the game. This play was set up by the hard work of call up Harry Gaebler who added a lot in his two games with the club. No more goals were tallied and the Hawks finished well in front of Nathan Cole who earned the tie with some fine saves.

Raiders win

October 29 the road trip was to Georgetown. The Hawks started strong and outshot Georgetown 14 to 7 in the first.

Cianflocca got things going with a nice goal off the feed from Christian Bonaldi. Then it was Bonaldi's turn to find mesh on a fine power play effort with the passes from Michael Magliocchi and Ryan Rausch. In the second the Hawks experienced the twilight zone surrendering four goals with none in reply. As the third period

progressed the Hawks turned it on outshooting the Raiders 11 to 1 despite having five penalties in a seven-minute span. On one of their few power play opportunities the Hawks counted one back off the drive from Symonds with

assists to Bonaldi and Richard. On the tough end of several poor calls the Hawks finished with pressure but could not get the equalizer on the short end of the 4-3 contest.
