Minor bantam Blackhawks are on a streak

The Caledon Blackhawks minor bantam select team edged past the North York Rangers 2-1 in a hard-fought contest that saw the Rangers sit on a 1-0 lead for two periods.

Caledon's inability to beat the Rangers goaltender led to a shift in strategy in the 3rd period, which quickly paid off. Just 21 seconds into the 3rd, Mike "The Mechanic" Bellisario found an opening and buried the puck to tie the game. Hard work by linemates Angelo Mantini and Damian Commisso earned them the assists. With the Rangers now back on their heels, the Hawks took advantage of some sloppy play as Robert Keszeg stole the puck and made a nice pass to Andrew Fellin in front of the Rangers' net.

Fellin, not one to waste time, fired the puck home for the Hawks' 2nd goal and the win.

Hawks overpower

Sharpshooters

Saturday night saw the Blackhawks clobber the Brampton Sharpshooters 5- 1. Returning from a severe shoulder injury Kyle Sammut in his 1st game of the season in a Blackhawk uniform, found the back of the net with his 1st shot on goal. Linemates Bellisario and Commisso earned the assists. Next, Harry Gaebler roofed the puck on a nice pass from Vincent Maiolino to end the period 2-1.

Opening the second period on a power play Sammut found Gaebler creeping in from the blue line for his 2nd goal. Shortly thereafter Zachary Moszynski and Maiolino combined some nifty passing which resulted in Gaebler finding the net for his 3rd goal of the game.

In the 3rd period the defensive core of Luigi Desanto, Anthony Gasbarre, Joseph DiMarco, Christopher Rotondo, Vincent Minicucci and Harry Gaebler shut down the Sharpshooters' attack by not allowing a single shot on net and holding the Sharpshooters to only 6 shots all game. With nothing to do netminder Torrey Glendinning pulled out his lawn chair and popcorn and cheered his team on. As the 3rd period wound down and with the Hawks again on a

power play Gaebler and Maiolino combined and found Fellin, for the final goal of the game.

Spitfires shot down

A Sunday evening raid into enemy territory saw the Blackhawks team devastate the Spitfires to the tune of 6- 0.

First period scoring was opened by Bellisario due to some tenacious forechecking by linemates Sammut and Commisso. Then mid-way through the period the "newbies" struck again as Warren Stroud finished off some nice work by Fellin and Gasbarre. Shortly thereafter Keszeg hammered one home from Fellin and DiMarco to complete the first period scoring.

The 2nd period action started with Maiolino and Gasbarre controlling the play in the offensive zone. A heads-up pass found Justin Lollino in a no parking zone in front of the net for the Hawks' 4th goal of the night.

With time running down in the period, Stroud completed the tic-tac-toe passing from Minicucci and Fellin for his 2nd goal of the night.

The 3rd period saw the Hawks continue their crushing onslaught as they kept the Spitfires hemmed in their own end. Keszeg and Sammut found Stroud unmolested out front who then shovelled the puck passed the Brampton netminder for his hat trick, and the final goal of the game. Hawks' netminder Taylor Elkins made some outstanding saves throughout the game, however, it was in the third period when he locked the barn door behind him for the shutout.
