Caledon Speaker Series
UK visitor presents talk

"Local" is emerging as the hot new food trend in upscale restaurants and groceries in urban centres in North America. In the UK it is beginning to revitalize rural agricultural economics and income potential for family farmers. Not to mention local tastes good!

The Caledon Speaker Series presents this unique presentation on local food and agriculture from the UK perspective. Jeanette Longfield from the group Sustain will be sharing her experiences on linking urban eaters and rural growers and producers in and around London and southwest England.

Come and hear what local food could mean to all countryside municipalities in the Greater Golden Horseshoe looking to revitalize agriculture and make it economically viable for the next 50 years. The talk will be held Nov. 10.

The Caledon Speaker Series is held at the SGI Caledon Centre for Culture and Education (20490 Porterfield Road - Regional Road 136 - North of Alton). Doors open at 7:30 and the presentation begins at 8 p.m. Cost is a $5 donation at the door. For more information call the Caledon Countryside Alliance at 905- 584-6221 or go to www.caledoncountryside.or g.
