James Ciantar is Toronto native whose love of both art and music occupied much of his time growing up. He later earned his degree from the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) and today is a successful designer. James's musical inspiration was his father, a fervent lover of opera and gifted amateur tenor.

Several years later James attended an audition for Opera Mississauga/Royal Opera Canada. He was immediately invited to sing in the chorus and was given comprimario roles. Subsequently, upon the suggestion of a fellow chorister, James attended a master class being held by world renowned tenor Ermanno Mauro. Instantly impressed by this newcomer to his class, Mauro began coaching James on his vocal technique and continues to work with him today. Recently James has worked with coaches from the Metropolitan Opera and the conservatory in Montreal.

He has many professional opera and recital performances to his credit, including chorus and comprimario roles in La Traviata, Eugene Onegin and Madama Butterfly. Earlier this year, James performed the principal role of Pinkerton from Puccini's beloved Madama Butterfly at Orangeville's Opera House.

James will be performing the role of Canio in

Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci April 29, 2007. He will later perform the lead role of Rodolfo in La Boheme.
