Cavalier Hawks win season opener

After three false starts, one cancellation and two noshows, the AE minor atom Hawks faced Waterloo Ice for their first league game.

The Cavalier Hawks started the game looking flat, but that quickly changed. Waterloo was caught on a bad change, the Hawks stormed in with Daniel Fusco finding an open Kyle Graham who moved in, froze the goalie and picked the far side of the net. Later in the shift, Graham again picked the far corner past the goalie's glove. No further scoring ended the first 2-0 Hawks.

Caledon continued the pressure with another early goal in the second period. After some hard work, and a

wraparound attempt, Carter Ledson lost the puck, but a waiting Marc Anthony Simonetta banged it into the net. While killing a penalty, a bad bounce off a skate gave an opposing player a perfect shot and Waterloo was on the board. Thanks to some great defensive play and solid goaltending by Koby Stronach, the Hawks killed four penalties and a 5 on 3 ending the period 3-1. Midway through the third, the Hawks fell victim to another goal. Waterloo tried to tie, but could not equalize even with an empty net. Hawks win their first season game.
