Candidate Forster seeks a 2-year tax freeze There has been a 12% tax increase in Caledon over the last three years! Caledon has amassed $31 million in reserves. This is enough capital to complete all major projects without raising any debt. We have had four straight years of budget surpluses. It's time to put a halt to this type of budgeting. Staff has been underestimating revenue and overestimating expenses and council has been buying it. It's time that we stopped over-taxing homes and businesses. We can afford a tax freeze for the next two years without impacting any current capital projects. Council and staff need to focus on creating efficiencies and eliminating waste within the bureaucracy so that services are not effected. Being debt free without a mortgage and with huge reserves, the Town is able to afford to start reinvesting in infrastructure. Roads in Ward 1 have pretty much been ignored with gravel roads receiving monthly gradings, never additional gravel, and paved roads receiving the occasional shovel of topcoat. Our villages have received no capital investment and the lack of maintenance is showing. There have been no upgrades to recreational facilities in Ward 1 and the major complaint in the community is that Bolton gets everything. The new arena in Caledon East should be a double pad and not a single one to support sports in north Caledon where, in many families, it is a religion. Ward 1 contributes more than 20% of the tax revenues for all of Caledon. Show me where the money is spent! The individuals hardest hit in our community are seniors. Seniors on fixed income have seen their disposable income evaporate due to increased energy cost, general inflation, and yes ... increased taxes. The best place for our seniors is in their homes in the communities that they have helped build. I want Caledon to consider an additional tax program structured to permit seniors to economically remain in their homes until viable alternative senior housing can be built. Council's agenda for the next four years is already filling up. Residents need to have a voice of strength and vision to push Ward 1 issues. Voting for Tim Forster will give you that voice.
