Minor theft 'mushrooms'

Over the weekend of Oct. 13-14 a theft occurred at 19 Nancy Street, Bolton. The theft or "temporary loan" of this weighty object, in the form of three concrete toadstools cast as a group and weighing approximately 30 pounds-plus, they were the centerpiece of a fall pumpkin display in a front yard opposite the Anglican Church.

Being concrete and quite heavy, the toadstools probably had to be transported. The owner believes this rules out the forever maligned young generation as a pre- Halloween prank which is a good story because "the kids often get a bad rap which is rarely deserved" said the homeowner. "What concerns me" continued the homeowner, is "we appear to have adults driving the streets of Bolton stealing garden ornaments, which at best is a nuisance but disappointing as a community, the true impact is to community security and feelings of personal trespass which always accompanies this type of poor behaviour."

The homeowner went on to say, "I might try to console myself with the thought of the toadstools joining the "Travelling Gnome Syndrome" (Google - Travelling Gnome). Toadstools have been synonymous with gnomes since the time of yore and there is an age-old myth that gnomes travel the globe sending candid pictures of themselves in famous locations, such as The Vatican, Taj Mahal, Statue of Liberty, Sydney Harbor Bridge, etc. "I'll be keenly watching for my toadstools appearing at any one of these travel destinations, or on the stage setting of Late Night with Leno," said the toadstools' true owner.
