Municipal Vote 2006 Allan Thompson, 45, the current Ward 2 area councillor and one of three contenders for the regional council seat, has unveiled his election platform. "There are a lot of issues at the forefront right now in our community and it is important that the voters know where we stand," said Thompson. Topping the list is Thompson's commitment to the regional partnership. "There is a movement afoot to change the regional dynamics and our last representatives worked hard to maintain that partnership. The next group of regional representatives will have to work just as vigorously to maintain that partnership and Caledon's role," he said. Another regional issue affecting Ward 2 residents is with regard to water service. Prolonged dry spells in recent years have lowered the natural water table in our community and Phase VII is the region's plan for lake water service to come into the southwestern section of the Town of Caledon to provide reliable water service. "Our councillors at the regional table have had other challenges in the current term, but it is critical that this project be given the priority it needs to sustain our community," added Thompson. Ward 2 is a unique mix of rural and urban communities with several smaller hamlets. Issues and challenges for the communities are often very different and each must be sensitive and cognizant to the challenges faced by the other. Based on the population growth projections issued by the province, the Caledon community is scheduled to grow. Thompson believes that the town needs a locallydriven, controlled-growth plan. "There is only one taxpayer. The town will need to find the right balance between preservation of the countryside, and industrial and commercial growth to sustain our community budgets and future infrastructure needs," he said. Ward 2 residents will have a fresh new face representing them as their area councillor seat and there will be other new faces around the council table. As an experienced Ward 2 politician, Thompson is anxious to be part of the next Caledon team and is committed to developing a community that is prosperous and sustainable. "The potential is there. We need to unleash it to facilitate success," he noted. Thompson has made a lifelong commitment to the community and he asks for your support.
