Disabled parking bylaw updated

The parking for persons with disabilities bylaw was updated by Caledon council recently.

The existing bylaw didn't include appropriate standards for signage or for design of the designated parking spaces. It also didn't require owners of parking lots to provide visible signs and to locate designated parking spaces in appropriate areas, nor was there any mechanism for enforcement of such standards.

The minimum fine for illegally parking in a disabled parking space remains unchanged at $300.

The new bylaw will come into effect after approval by the chief justice of the Provincial Offences Court. This is usually a six-month period which will allow the Town to work with owners and operators of parking lots to meet the requirements of the bylaw.
