House fire

Sunday, Oct. 15, at approximately 4:15 am, Caledon Fire & Emergency Services personnel were dispatched to a reported house fire at 6074 Highway 9 in the Town of Caledon. As this is a rural area, the tanker shuttle procedure was implemented by the Joint Fire Communications Centre.

Upon arrival firefighters found a large garage and breezeway attached to a single storey house. The garage was fully involved in fire and additional fire support was requested.

Firefighters conducted a fire attack on the garage and completed a primary search of the residence. All of the occupants of the residence had evacuated the house prior to the arrival of the fire department. Caledon firefighters were successful in preventing the spread of fire from the garage to the attached residence. There were no injuries.

While the cause of this fire remains under investigation, a wood stove was being used to heat the garage. Caledon residents are reminded of the need to have their wood stoves and chimney assemblies cleaned and inspected prior to the start of the heating season.

Damage is estimated at $60,000.
