Four killed in two-vehicle collision

Caledon OPP officers and OPP Technical Collision Investigators are continuing with the investigation of a fatal motor vehicle collision on Charleston Sideroad and Mississauga Road in Caledon, which occurred Saturday, Oct. 14 at approximately 6:15 p.m.

A Ford minivan traveling southbound on Mississauga Road, and attempted to make a left turn at the intersection to travel eastbound on Charleston Sideroad when it was struck by a westbound Freightliner tractor trailer.

Tragically, four of the 10 occupants of the minivan died as a result of the collision, while six others were transported to hospitals with serious injuries. A 76-year-old female, 41-year-old female, 34-year-old female and a 13-year-old male, all visitors from Korea, were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The driver of the minivan, a 46-year-old female from Toronto, was transported to hospital with serious injuries along with five others who were visitors from Korea. Those in hospital include a 77-year-old male, 39-year-old male, 13-year-old female, eight-year-old female and a six-year-old male. The family has requested that names not be released at this time.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 43-year-old male from Lakeshore, Ontario was not injured in the collision.

Caledon firefighters extricated and stabilized six passengers from the mini-van and assisted Peel Region and Dufferin County EMS with patient care and removal from the minivan. The Orangeville fire department provided emergency coverage for the northwest portion of Caledon at the Alton fire station for the duration of this incident. Agencies on scene were Alton, Caledon Village, Inglewood and Snelgrove fire stations, Orangeville fire department, Peel and Dufferin EMS, two air ambulances, Caledon OPP and the coroner.
