Saying thanks to bus drivers

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will pay tribute to its school bus drivers by holding a Bus Driver Appreciation Day today (Oct. 18). The day will be celebrated with special activities and events that provide teachers, students and parents an opportunity to thank the bus drivers who safely transport 30,000 Dufferin-Peel students to and from school each day.

"We appreciate the hard work and dedication our bus drivers put into their jobs everyday," said Peter Ferreira, Dufferin-Peel chair. "It is an awesome responsibility and our school community is taking the opportunity to recognize and celebrate them October 18."

As in the past, many Dufferin-Peel schools will celebrate Bus Driver Appreciation Day with special treats for drivers.

In 1993, the Dufferin- Peel Catholic District School Board and the Peel

District School Board became partners in the operation of a joint busing system. The partnership saves the two boards more than $3 million annually and the joint system is widely acknowledged as among the most efficient systems in the province.
