Caledon's Dorado Stars Swim Club kicks it up

The Dorado Stars Swim Club is dedicated to excellence. The club runs six different programs for various skill levels.
Caledon's Dorado Stars swim club had a phenomenal 2005/2006 season, adding five championship meet trophies to their repertoire and they are gearing up for another banner year.

The club's record number of registrations, top-notch coaching staff and the exceptional effort of the board, committees and athletes led to outstanding results.

"I am thrilled with how far we've come," said coach Brian Kelly. "When I joined the Dorado Stars as head coach three years ago we had 12 competitive swimmers, now we have 65. Our growth and success has been outstanding and the sky's the limit as we move forward."

Dorado Stars swimming has a long and rich history of service to the community. Since 1972, they have trained children and young adults in the sport of competitive swimming with outstanding results. Caledon's Dorado Stars has produced many regional, provincial, national, and international level swimmers.

"We are extremely proud of our history and are progressively looking to the future," stated coach Kelly.

The Dorado Stars is a non-profit swim club that operates out of the Mayfield Recreation Complex, located about 15 minutes from downtown Bolton and Brampton. They offer competitive, pre-competitive and developmental swimming programs to service the needs of all swimmers and athletes in the town of Caledon.

The club runs six different programs: from early technical skill development programs, to hard-core regional, provincial and national training, right through to cross-training for athletes involved in other sports and finally a masters program for adults 20 and over who want to pursue training and skill development in the sport of swimming.

This developmental program introduces children to the FUNdamentals of swimming. The goal is to teach swimmers 6 to 12 years of age to swim efficiently with skills that will stay with them for a lifetime.

In this 10-week program, the swimmer receives two one-hour sessions of instruction in the pool with a qualified coach per week. Plus, a fun in-house swim meet competition is held at the end of the program with prizes and food for all the swimmers! This program is offered four times each year: fall, winter, spring and summer.

The Swim School (competitive development) and Intro Program (competitive introduction) provide the foundation for which excellence in the sport of competitive swimming can be attained.

"These two programs are the building blocks for our future success in the competitive arena, with a strong foundation, we can go as high as we want," said coach Kelly.

The Dorado Stars Swim Club is dedicated to the pursuit

of individual excellence. "Our aim is to create an environment where the swimmer can learn the value of competition and teamwork, while developing a higher level of self-confidence and self esteem," stated Eric McDougall, the club's volunteer president. "It has been good to see

what the Dorado Stars Swim Club has done, and what we are doing once again," added 16-year-old Kendra Colgan, a senior Dorado Stars swimmer who has been swimming with the club the longest. "I am very happy and proud to see where we are now, and I am looking forward to where we go next. We keep getting

better, individually and as a team, becoming the best swim club we can be."
