Fund-raiser in support of Diabetes Association, local marathon runner Come out to Lickwid Lounge in Bolton this Friday (Oct. 13) at 7 p.m. to support Tanya Sciarra in her fund-raising efforts for the Canadian Diabetes Association. Sciarra will be among many long-distance runners, participating in the Honolulu Marathon 2007. There will be great silent auction items on hand to bid on as well as raffle prizes and a 50/50 draw. Lickwid Lounge provides just the right atmosphere that Tanya was looking for. The staff is friendly, the music is great and the drinks and pizza baked on site are incredibly delicious! The decision to take on the challenge came easy for Tanya since, unfortunately, her father-in-law lost his sight and had one of his legs and three toes amputated because of diabetes. What better way to share her passion for running and fund-raising, the two things that occupy most of her time along with raising her three children! She has run many 5-kilometre races, a few half marathons and finally, Sept. 24 of this year, completed her first full marathon in Toronto in 4 hours and 16 minutes. If you cannot make it out that evening and still wish to make a donation you can do so on line at www.teamdiabetes.ca. Click on "pledge a participant," select the event "Honolulu Marathon 2007," and enter the participant's name Tanya Sciarra. All donations are tax deductible. You can also expect to see Tanya in your neighbourhood going door to door collecting donations. She is hoping to raise the $6,200 needed to participate in the 2007 Honolulu Marathon to be held next Dec. 9, with Team Diabetes. The funds raised are directed towards helping to support diabetes research, education, support and advocacy. All funds are allocated to these programs. |
