Nearby filming landmark featuring fall live music series Even if you've never been to The Legendary Salty Dawg Saloon located on Hwy. 27 in Kleinburg, chances are you've seen the inside of this landmark building in one of your favorite movies. The location of numerous features and television shows, "The Dawg," as locals refer to it as, was featured in Tommy Boy with Chris Farley and was a prominent backdrop in Night of the Twisters. The roadhouse has been under new ownership since January 2006, but has been in business for more than 30 years. Still surrounded by open space and conservation land the noticeable lack of development makes you feel like you're up in cottage country. True to their country roots, western memorabilia covers the walls and some of the bronco riding cowboys seen in the pictures still frequent the bar. Regulars and welcomed visitors come from all walks of life. Many of the "old timers are farmers, horse owners, trainers and jockeys who stop in on their way back to Caledon and King from Woodbine Race Track. Known for their quick and inexpensive lunch time specials, local tradesman frequent The Dawg and appreciate the natural rural surroundings, where muddy boots are welcomed and a non-franchise attitude makes you feel immediately at home. October starts a Fall Music Series sponsored by local micro beer, King Brewery, featuring Juno Award-winning blues legend, Jack de Keyzer. Other shows include Caution Jam, from classic albums live fame featuring music of Jerry Garcia & The Grateful Dead, and bluegrass and gospel harmony specialists General Store. For the 19 and older crowd, Friday, Oct. 13 will feature new indie music from Surplus Sons and The New Cities who are releasing new CDs this fall and are produced by Greig Nori (former manager of Sum 41 & lead singer of Treble Charger) and Matt Brann (Avril Lavigne's drummer). All fans should come out to meet Greig and Matt and support these amazing new indie bands. All shows are in association with Nobleton's infamous boys from Mushroom Productions and their featured artists Outspoken (Oct. 13). If you're looking for an easy (and inexpensive) evening of food and entertainment which offers a landmark venue, great live music, and a safe, friendly atmosphere, without the Toronto drive and parking hassles, The Legendary Salty Dawg is worth a visit, or revisit, as the case may be. |
