Annual Toby Jug tournament gives to food bank
By Vicki Hinnells

Saturday, Sept. 16 the 7th annual Ladies Toby Jug golf tournament took place at Glen Eagle Golf Club. Many thanks to the staff of Glen Eagle who once again took care of the 52 ladies, ensuring their carts were ready to go at the proper time, getting the tournament off and running at 2:30 p.m. Great weather, lots of fun, and good friends were the order of the day.

At the end of the 9-hole shotgun, four delightful ladies from Erin took home the low score from the scramble tournament. Helen Atkinson, Sharon Nolan, Jean Denison and Maude Toogood were all smiles with a winning score of 36. Congratulations on a game well played.

As in the past, the Toby Jug British Pub supplied the venue for a delicious dinner and party after the event. A huge thank-you goes to new owner Scott Mooney for continuing the tradition of the ladies golf tournament, and to staff member Cheryl Hicks for taking on the prize detail. Scott, chef David and the staff of the Toby Jug served up their usual delicious dinner, followed by an evening of karaoke and dancing. It is always rewarding to see the ladies from Bolton and surroudning areas come together once a year to golf, catch up, let loose and enjoy a wonderful day together.

Of course, adding a special touch to the tournament are the supportive people who donate prizes for the efforts of the ladies. Heartfelt thanks must go to Martin Bates and the Glen Eagle Golf Club, Bill Agnew, Dave Spanton from Home Hardware, Nancy Jervais from L'Oreal, Susanne Montgomery, Guinness, Labatts, Heineken, Christine Deacey, Lisa Brasier, Tracy Morin, Marie Newman, Lisa Hewten, Scott Mooney and the Toby Jug.

A very important thank you must go to Helen Jolly (Tom) and Helen Jolly (Ron), former owners of the Toby Jug. It has been my pleasure, for the past seven years, to work alongside these two wonderful and helpful ladies, without whom the final arrangements for our golf tournament would not have been possible. While no longer owners/golfers, they will hopefully continue to be a part of the team as participant golfers.

Lastly, the true winner of this year's tournament is the Caledon food bank. Along with a huge number of nonperishable food donations, the tournament raised $545. A special, "biggest heart"

thank you goes to Linda Penrose for her donation of $100 to this cause. Words alone cannot express our gratitude for this generous contribution. On that note, we say, see you all next year!
