Caledon under 10 girls end season on high note

Caledon's under 10 Wildcats ended their season on a winning note.
After a long summer of play in the Peel Halton Select league, The Caledon Wildcats finished their season off with a stirring run

to glory at the 2006 Albert Campbell tournament in Scarborough.

Seeded in a tough division with teams from

Barrie, Pickering and Brampton, The girls went 1 and 1 in their first two games before they put in a huge effort in the third game versus a talented Brams side.

As Pickering floundered on the next pitch, it soon became apparent that the winner of the Caledon/Brampton game would go through to the next round.

After building up a twogoal lead, the Caledon girls did everything they could to hold off a surging Brams side. Deep in the second half, Brams was able to close the gap by half but it was as close as they would get, as the Wildcats were able to shut them down and move onto the semis.

Sunday saw the girls face another Brams team, and although they seemed tired and uninspired for much of the game they were able to come away with a 1-0 victory, which led them to the finals against Milton.

Milton had made its way to the final by dispatching many teams with lopsided victories, which tallied some 15 goals scored against their opponents. Conversely, Caledon's stingy goaltending and defence had only given up two goals the entire tournament. While the game started out quite evenly, The Wildcats scored two quick goals, which seemingly deflated the Milton team. The girls took a two-goal lead into the second half and saw them double it by the end of the game. In the end the Milton offensive powerhouse could not break down the Caledon defence and the girls took the championship home.

Throughout the tournament different girls shined at different times but the victory belonged to the team. Stellar goaltending by Alicia Matis; unparallel defensive play by Raquel Delmas, Isabelle Hunter, Kayla McAdam and Alicia Murray; owning the midfield by Madison Krofchick and Nicole Mallow and text book offensive skills from Veronica Remme, Emily Babcock, Carly Portch, Rachel DePaulo, Ali Cannon, Samantha Lewis and Madison Bratton all helped to win the tournament and to make this entire year on worth to remember. The coaches and parents want to extend their congratulations to this special group of girls. Well done!
