Caledon celebrates 8th annual 'Love your Library Month' October has become a very special time of year at the Caledon Library. For the 8th consecutive year, October is Love Your Library Month. This year the theme of our month long celebration will be "Hot Science, Cool Ideas." Exciting events and programs are planned at all seven branches. Among the highlights this year for young adults will be the Elizabeth Scavetta Memorial Short Story contest for ages 12-18 and a decorating workshop designed exclusively for teens. Topics of workshops for adults include "What to Wear" a fashion seminar for women; Internet basics for beginners; Hiking on the Oak Ridges Moraine; and Women's Health. Also returning for the 12th year is the Friends of the Caledon Library's annual Scrabble with the Stars fundraising event. But the fun does not end there. We have some great activities planned for the kids too, including Mad Scientist story times; Belfountain Buccaneers at which children will learn about the science of pirates, stories and crafts; a Halloween party at all seven branches; a hands-on science workshop facilitated by U of T engineering students and a very popular grossology workshop where kids will learn to make slime, edible barf and dog poo. Back by popular demand will be the educational and entertaining Mad Science program. Children will be amazed when the Mad Scientist is able to defy gravity in this energetic and spectacular event. As part of this special celebration and as a way to say thanks to Caledon for supporting the library, October 1-7 has been declared fine free. For the donation of one or more non-perishable food items our patrons will have their fines forgiven. All food collected will be donated to the Caledon Community Services fall food drive. Don't miss this opportunity to clear your fines and help your community. For details of all these programs and more, watch for the calendar of events featured in the Caledon Citizen the last week of September, stop by any one of the seven branches and pick up a copy or visit them online at www.caledon.library.on.ca. Never has there been a better time to Love Your Library! |
