New parking spaces in downtown Bolton
By ALAN LICZYK Staff Reporter

Downtown Bolton will soon have 37 new parking spaces in the lot at the northeast corner of Sterne and Ann streets after Caledon council awarded the construction contract to Loc-Pave Construction Ltd. last Tuesday.

Loc-Pave Construction submitted the low bid of $262,701. It has completed similar work for the Town in the past. There were nine other bids ranging in price from $278,639 to $379,315.60.

Construction of the new parking spaces will begin this fall. The work will include removal of the existing structure on the property, a new asphalt surface, curbed islands, lighting and a new storm sewer system that will drain the new parking lot and surrounding lands including Ann Street and outlet to the Humber River.

The parking lot expansion is being phased. The first phase includes the 37 new parking spaces and a general revitalization of the area. The subsequent phases will include surface and drainage improvements to the existing parking lot and Ann Street, construction of the proposed driveway next

to the Black Bull Pub & Eatery, construction of the planned parkette next to the Humber River and Queen Street, and sidewalk links.

"It's been talked about for years." said Mayor Marolyn Morrison. "It's finally going to happen."
