Artistic endeavors abound across Caledon
Mayor's Report
By Marolyn Morrison

You may have noticed the new artwork displayed in our Community Gallery at the town hall. Caledon is home to many of Canada's finest artisans. What better way to showcase their art and make Caledon Town Hall vibrant, than to display their works throughout our building?

We welcome residents to visit the new showcase of talent from local and surrounding areas. Every month a new artist will exhibit their works, along with promotional material about themselves. The Town does not take any commission from art sold while on display and artists can team up for an exhibit if they choose. If you would like to showcase your work at the Town, please contact our Customer Service Department at 905584-2272. I invite you to make the town hall a destination to explore more of what Caledon has to offer. The Headwaters Arts

Festival will take place from Sept. 22 to Oct. 9. This is a wonderful event and opportunity to see many skilled artisans and their spectacular works. Workshops for adults and children are also available. One of my favorite events scheduled throughout this festival is the Armchairs, Authors and Art; this year the event will be moderated by David Staines (co-host of the CBC Radio Ontario Today Book Club). Art, music, theatre and dance; this festival has something for everyone. I hope that you and your family have a chance to part-take in the many festivities. For more information about the Headwaters Arts Festival, call 877-262-0545, visit www.headwatersartsfestival. com or stop by town hall and pick up their information brochure.

The Caledon Chamber Concerts have an exciting 2006-2007 season. All concerts take place at St. James Anglican Church in Caledon East. These concerts are sponsored by Gordon Morton and if you would like to be added to the guest list, contact Gordon at 905880-2445 or e-mail at Gordon.morten@sympatico. ca.

The first concert is Friday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. and will feature the Tokai String Quartet Mozart, Shostakovich.

This past summer, CACY held its annual summer program which affords our

youth an opportunity to study from some of Caledon's finest artisans. Each year, this program grows in popularity and it is a great way for our youth to explore their inner creativity. For more information on the summer programs and CACY's 50th anniversary, visit www.cacy.ca.

The first week of November, CACY teachers and participating artist, will be opening their studio doors to the public for their annual CACY Studio Tour. The Town is excited to offer a glimpse of some of the artwork at a special exhibit at town hall beginning Oct. 16.

Visit the Fair

The Albion & Bolton Agricultural Society will host the 148th annual Bolton Fall Fair Sept. 22-24 at the fairgrounds on Queen Street South in Bolton. Rain or shine, the annual demolition derby and burn-out competition will take place on the Friday night. Make sure to visit the agricultural learning centre, Kiddie pedal tractor pull and the antique tractor display over the weekend. There is also a pet show, baby show, 4-H calf show and more. The Peel 4H Ambassador competition is one of the many wonderful events that encourage our young residents to participate in our agricultural community and advocate on their behalf. This is a time honoured tradition, dating back to 1967. For 2005-2006 the Fair Ambassador was Kristen Duerhammer and the Junior Fair Ambassador was Lisa Casagrande.

I have had an opportunity to get to know both of these young ladies through the Mayor's Youth Council and they have done a wonderful job. Sunday, members of council will form teams in a milking competition. We look forward to seeing you there.

Sign Bylaw

In keeping with promoting community spirit and keeping Caledon beautiful, I would like to take this opportunity to remind residents of our sign bylaw that strictly prohibits the placing of posters on public property. Several residents have contacted me regarding illegal signs. Rightly, they are upset that their neighbours, who post these signs advertising garage sales and lost pets, do not remove them after the fact. It may interest you to know that the sign bylaw has taken into account that there may be times when residents will need to post information (example, looking for a lost dog) and so there are sign sleeves located on various poles around our community that have been made available.

For more information, please contact our Bylaw Enforcement Department at 905-584-2272 or visit our Web site at www.caledon.ca.
