Local air cadets seeking new recruits

Graeme Sodenkamp, of Bolton, the retiring Warrant Officer First Class (WOI) of the 892 Snowy Owl Squadron, poses with a glider used by the Air Cadet program. The glider was part of the Air Cadet display at the Brampton Flying Club, the local sponsor of the squadron, this past weekend.
The local 892 Snowy Owl Squadron of the Air Cadet program are looking for young men and women between the ages of 12 and 18 who are interested in joining the program.

One of three youth programs sponsored through the Department of National Defence, Air Cadets offers a variety of challenging and rewarding activities with a focus on flight. Cadets also learn valuable life and work skills that will serve them well throughout their lifetime, such as teamwork, leadership and citizenship. The delivery of programs and activities for the cadets is a shared partnership with the Air Cadet League of Canada, local sponsors and volunteer parent committees.

Local cadet training and activities took a hiatus during the summer months, but they are kicking back into high gear this week. Returning and new recruits will meet at the Brampton Flying Club, 13691 McLaughlin Road (between Mayfield and King Roads) each Tuesday night from September through June.

Anyone interested in considering enrollment in the local Air Cadet program is invited to drop by the squadron Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. to see what it is all about. Information on the local cadet activities is available online at www.892snowyowl.ca, with information on the national cadet program available at www.cadets.ca.

Cadets in the 892 Snowy Owl Squadron come from throughout the communities within the Town of Caledon, and surrounding areas. For more, contact the squadron's Commanding Officer, Major Ken A'Hern at 905-702-9582.
