Under-9 Bolton Wanderers win tournament

Bolton's under-9 boys soccer team had a great performance at the recent Alliston Invitational Soccer Tournament, taking gold in a very exciting finale against the host squad.
The under-9 Bolton Wanderers soccer team played superbly in winning the Alliston Invitational Soccer Tournament recently.

Sparked by great play and determination, the team went undefeated in group play Saturday, scoring eight goals while allowing only one against, and securing a spot in the tournament playoffs on Sunday.

During Sunday morning's semifinal, the mighty Wanderers showed a great offensive touch combined with great team defence against the host team Alliston. The game was close at the half, but the Wanderers found their touch in the second half, scoring four goals to secure a spot in the finals and beating Alliston 5-0.

The final proved to be the best game of the tournament for the team as they faced a very enthusiastic and skilful Owen Sound team. The Bolton boys would not be denied a place in the winner's circle, as played their hearts out resulting in a fantastic 7-2 win in the final to clinch their second tournament title of the 2006 summer soccer season, along with the Barrie Spritfest tournament in June.

Bolton's record for the tournament was an impressive five wins, no losses, with 23 goals for and only four against. Coach Marco Moras is very proud of his team's effort in the tournament and throughout the summer season, and is played in the summer's biggest tournament, the John Henderson Memorial tournament in London, Ontario, this past Labour Day weekend. The under-9 boys who are currently on a 10-game winning streak, have a summer record of 25 wins, four losses, and two ties, with 113 goals for and only 36 against, and are currently still looking for a goalie. They will be having tryouts for their winter program the first week of October.

Coach Moras would also like to thank the parents on the team for their dedication and commitment, as well as the Bolton Wanderers Soccer Club for their support throughout the summer season. The team played its last league game Thursday and then went off to London and north Mississauga for their final two tournaments of the 2006 summer season. Team

players are as follows: Angelo Addario, Frankie Filippo, Francesco Molinaro, Julian Medeiros, Justin Donatelli, Nicholas Davids, Luca Cortese, Braedyn Phipps, Matthew Dias, Quentin Williams, Anthony Marino, Ryan Tripone, coach Marco Moras, assistant coach Mark Phipps and manager Giacamo Cortese.
