Caledon mom killed in Kentucky plane crash
By Mandi Hargrave

A Caledon mother was among three Canadians killed in Lexington, Kentucky last Sunday when Comair Flight 5191 crashed after trying to take off from the wrong runway.

Christina Anderson had just celebrated her 39th birthday this month. Her brother, Sven Landmark, is quoted in the London Free Press as saying that she travelled to Kentucky to meet her boyfriend, Lyle Anderson (no relation) because he raced horses there.

She leaves daughters Lauren and Sarah.

The Free Press article says Mr. Anderson was the former owner of Ottawa's River Ridge Farm, while Ms Anderson managed 30 horses at a Caledon farm.

The other Canadian on the flight was Anne Marie Bailey, of B.C.

The plane was carrying 47 passengers and three crew members. The only person to survive was First Officer James Polehinke, who was reported in critical condition at the University of Kentucky's Albert B. Chandler Medical Center.

The aircraft was cleared to take off from Runway 22, a 7,003-foot-long strip. Instead the pilots somehow taxied to Runway 26, a secondary runway only 3,500 feet long. The plane crashed after clipping the airport's boundary fence and became airborne after hitting a berm.
