Something to Crow About at the Caledon Fall Fair Just come and soak up all the fun, activities, animals and entertainment. It all begins Friday evening Sept. 8 with the Demolition Derby, presented by Xtreme Productions. It features regular demolition heats and the firefighters' challenge. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the action starts at 8 p.m. Admission is $8. The Red Rocket Band with Dennis Hahn and Friends will be playing on the showmobile from 6 p.m. on. Saturday the parade begins at 11 a.m. The theme of this year's fair and the parade is Something to Crow About. Cars, bikes, floats and bands will line up at 9:45 a.m. west of Kennedy Road on McCort Drive, opposite Caledon Central public school. Any older cars are welcomed to join in the parade. It will enter the fairgrounds through the back gates and then the official opening of the fair will be at noon on the showmobile. This year's parade will be led by grand marshalls Ruth and Blythe Meek and will feature the 164th Royal Canadian Air Cadets pipes and drums, along with floats, etc. The fair will be opened by Caledon area egg farmers Joe Metcalfe and family. Immediately following the ceremony will be the crowning of the fair ambassador and the junior fair ambassador. Following that will be the charity auction of home-made fruit pies and baskets of home-made preserves also on the showmobile. Proceeds will go the the Multiple Sclerosis Society and CAS. New this Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. will be the Antique Road Show. Wayne Townsend, director and curator of the Dufferin County Museum, noted appraiser and antique collector, Annette Turturici, owner of Inglewood Antique Market, CPPAG appraiser and antique dealer and collector, and Marion Mason of the Caledon Fair board CPPAG appraiser, antique dealer and collector, will be giving verbal appraisals of your treasures for $5 each or three items for $10. The money earned will be used by the fair board to defray fair costs. So bring along the treasure you have that you would like to know more about. There will be continuous live entertainment on the showmobile all day Saturday, with Tom's Martial Arts at 11, 1:30 and 3:15; The Dolson band will play after the auction and again at 2:30, and a pair of cloggers will also be featured. The Muir Family Band will begin at 6 p.m. From from 4 until 7 p.m. a family chicken barbecue will be served from a tent near the showmobile. This is another fund-raising project and will help continue the 146-year-old tradition of the Caledon Fall Fair. The Caledon Townhall Players will be performing on the bandstand Saturday at 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday there will be sheep herding dog demonstrations at 10:30, 12:30 and 2:30. Other Saturday attractions are the showcase of horses, the English horse show, the pet show, the firefighters demonstrations and the Ontario Provincial Police display. Saturday evening ends with the truck and tractor pull starting at 6 p.m. Saturday admission is $5. Come and see these Ontario truck and tractor pullers. There will be an antique tractor and machinery display set up by the hall both days. On Sunday at 10 a.m. is the Welsh pony show and the open driving division open to ponies and horses of all breeds. Also on Sunday is the Western horse show also at 10 a.m. The Peel 4-H beef club, the open showmanship, the dairy type and the beef type livestock shows continue all day Sunday. The children's pedal pull begins at 2 p.m. Sunday with pre-registration at the secretary's booth. Lucky draws will be held on the showmobile for bicycles and a quilt. Get your tickets at the secretary's booth. Entertainment on the showmobile will include Jimbo the Clown magic and puppet shows, and the Jack Coulson Band. Keep the kids busy by baking or making crafts to enter in the fair. Come to the hall to see the winners of the photographic competition, the crops and garden produce, antiques, home baking, pickles and relishes, quilting, knitting, woodcraft, arts and crafts, and more.
