New fall programs come to Peel Heritage Complex

Shed your end-of-summer blues and gear up for fall with one of the Peel Heritage Complex's new programs. Offering classes ranging from Latin line dancing to art for grown-ups, there's a class sure to interest everyone in your household. Peel Heritage Complex members receive a 10 per cent discount for all workshops.

Beginning Sept. 7, Latin line dancing for beginners will be offered Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. In this funfilled, energetic class participants will learn the meringue, salsa, mambo and cha-cha. No dance partners or experience is necessary. This eight-week class runs until Oct. 26 and costs $80.

Art for grown-ups begins Sept. 19 and runs every Tuesday evening until Oct. 24 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Students will try their hand at drawing, painting and printmaking in this oneof a-kind workshop. A more intensive class will be offered for returning students. The cost for six weeks is $120, all materials provided.

Art for teens begins Sept. 21 and runs Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m. until Oct. 26. This workshop is perfect for anyone looking to build their portfolio or enter a secondary or post-secondary art school. Participants will learn about art elementals, painting, woodcuts and more. These classes are goal oriented, allowing students to complete several projects simultaneously. The cost for six weeks is $120, all materials provided.

Always Wanted to be an Archivist, but Were Afraid to Ask? This unique course begins Sept. 21 and is offered Thursday nights from 7 to 8:30 p.m. until Oct. 5. This training program offered by the Region of Peel Archives is designed to teach the basics of collections processing, arrangement and preventive conservation. This course is mandatory for anyone wishing to volunteer in the archives. Classes are free of charge with a completed volunteer form.

The Peel Heritage Complex is operated by the Region of Peel and is located at 9 Wellington St. E. in Brampton. It's open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; weekends from noon to 4:30 p.m., and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission fees are $2.50 for adults; $1.50 for seniors; $1 for students and $7 for families.

The Peel Heritage Complex is made up of the Region of Peel Museum, the Art Gallery of Peel and the Region of Peel Archives. Together they collect, preserve and display a variety of materials related to Peel's heritage.
