C3 has achieved much in the past year

No club in Canada has achieved more in the last 12 months than Caledon's own C3 Canadian Cross Training Club.

"In my 25 years of coaching we have never had more athletes achieving more world-class success than this current group," said former Olympic coach and Caledon resident Barrie Shepley.

Caledon's own Sean Bechtel was recently selected to represent Canada at the World Triathlon Championships in Switzerland. Bechtel was the national silver medallist for Canada and added wins in Muskoka, London and Windsor. The former Mayfield secondary school athlete has been dominating all season long.

Joining Bechtel at the World Championships is Andre Paul BaillargeonSmith. AP as he is affectionately known to club members was the national duathlon silver medallist and recently was third place in a major U.S.A. race.

The third member of the world championship team from the local area is Palgrave's Andrew Woegerer. Woegerer won a major junior triathlon in Newfoundland earlier this month and was the top Canadian at the World Duathlon Championships finishing an amazing fifth place. Bechtel, Smith and Woegerer will all be wearing local C3 colours in Lausanne, Switzerland, Sept. 2-3.

C3's junior athletes have been dominating this month with three junior boys in the top 20 at the World Duathlon Championships (Woegerer fifth, Andrew Yorke 10th and Chad Ruby 18th) along with their junior teammate Britney Hern who finished 10th at the World Junior Championships.

C3 senior club members Bob Knuckey (age 55-59) and Carrie Heldman (age 35-39) finished 11th and seventh respectfully at the Newfoundland World Championships. At the recent Ontario Provincial Championships, C3 youth athletes were first (Yorke) second (Woegerer), fourth (Bechtel), eighth (Levigne), and 12th (Ruby) along with Krista Ruby (14-15 champion) and Hern (third place junior women).

Congrats to the C3 coaches, Brian Kelly and the Dorado Swim club, Kinetico, Trillium and the many volunteers who have continued to help the local athletes continue to improve. C3 athletes next race will be in Orillia at the Ontario Club Championships.

Any parent wishing to get their children started in the C3 run, bike or triathlon program, or novice adults who are looking to get started in a supportive, fun cross-training club should contact C3 for start-up details at www.c3online.ca or 905-880-9884.
