Church wants records back

During the evening hours of Saturday, July 29 to Sunday morning July 30, a number of miscreants broke into the Cheltenham Baptist Church. Awindow had been left open at the front of the Church for ventilation on a hot night, for which we readily assume responsibility, providing them with the opportunity to enter without causing any damage to the building.

Once inside the church they finished drinking their beers, lit a few candles, ransacked the kitchen and the nursery and the office of the minister, then left the church taking with them a chair and a small portable safe.

The chair was later recovered in the Beryl Bland Park. Unfortunately the safe they stole has never been recovered. The safe only contained church records dating back to when the church was founded in the 1800s and its contents are irreplaceable.

Although we have filed a report with the Caledon OPP, it is apparent that they will not be pursuing this investigation.

The board of managers, on behalf of the church members, are requesting that the person( s) who removed the safe contact the undersigned and advise me as to the location so that we can regain possession of our church records.
