By Marolyn Morrison

Summer is a great time for youth in Caledon to explore in their own backyards, and the Town's Summer Camp programs were the perfect opportunity to do so.

The summer of 2006 has proven to be yet another successful one for our camp programs. This year, we celebrated 20 years of offering quality camp programs here in Caledon with our "Cheers to 20 Years" campaign. After years of accumulating experience, knowledge and skills, we have mastered the art of creating camps that

Children with a lust for adventure enjoyed our Variety Camp with a weekly excursion, and for a little creativity Art camp was a favourite choice. In this 20th year of camp programs, we have hit an all time high of more than 1,300 camper registrations with a team of more than 30 dedicated camp staff.

The benefits of our summer camp programs have extended far into the community. The staff continues to gain leadership experience that transforms the youth of our community into great role models. In addition, our camps are

committed to diversity and inclusion which has allowed children of all abilities to attend, participate and have fun at camp. Working jointly with Reach for the Rainbow, a provincial charitable organization committed to enhancing inclusive opportunities for children and youth in recreational programs, we are able to let dreams come true for children of all needs.

In continuing our commitment to the environment, our Summer Camp participant survey is going paperless. We are conducting an online survey and to date the responses have been very positive. One parent wrote; "Our child has never been to camp and her experience has been fantastic. I have peace of mind knowing she is happy and safe, meeting lots of new kids and most important having fun."

Childhood is a time for fun, friendship, adventure and memories that last a lifetime. Summer camp programs in Caledon provided quality, positive experiences for youth in our community. We will continue our commitment to youth and our staff will continue to seek new and innovative program ideas.

Our Fall 2006/Winter 2007 Recreation and Town Services Guide was delivered to your door in midAugust and I hope you and your family will explore our recreational programs.
