Road renewal in Inglewood identified as a priority project

The Inglewood road renewal project was identified by Caledon council recently as a priority capital project which it hopes to get done at the same time Peel region installs a new sanitary sewer system in the village.

The cost to renew the existing roads in Inglewood is estimated at $6.7 million, so the Town will apply to the CanadaOntario Municipal Infrastructure Fund to contribute two-thirds of the non-growth related costs of the infrastructure improvements which equates to about $1.2 million.

Peel region has approved the installation of a new sanitary sewer system on the existing streets in Inglewood under a local improvement project. Peel has proposed to move forward with the detailed design of the sanitary sewer system in 2006 followed by construction in 2007.

Council believes it's good engineering practice and cost effective to renew the existing deteriorating roads at the same time the new sanitary sewer is installed.

A 250-millimetre diameter sanitary sewer will be constructed on Victoria Street, Louise Street, Lorne Street, McKenzie Street, MacDonald Street and McLaughlin Road. A sanitary forcemain will be constructed to the proposed wastewater pumping station near McLaughlin Road and the Credit River. The proposed sanitary sewer abuts about 100 properties.

The proposed road improvements include the reconstruction of McLaughlin Road and MacDonald Street based on a full urban cross-section including concrete curb and gutter, sidewalks, streetscaping, pedestrian friendly boulevard treatments, traffic-calming measures and on-street parking.

Local roads will be reconstructed to a semi-urban standard with roll curbs where possible and drainage improvements.
