Car driver killed in crash

A man was killed following a collision between a dump truck and a car at the intersection of Heart Lake Road and King Street last Wednesday at about 6 a.m.

Upon arrival, Caledon OPP officers found both vehicles in the southwest ditch.

The driver of the car, Michael D. Simmons, 21, of Pefferlaw, Ontario, was ejected from his vehicle and had no vital signs. He was pronounced dead at the scene by coroner Dr. Dirk Huyer.

The dump truck driver was transported to Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville with what initially appeared to be life-threatening injuries. These injuries were quickly reassessed to non-life-threatening upon arrival at the hospital.

Caledon firefighters from the Cheltenham and Inglewood fire stations provided patient care to both drivers and assisted in removing the driver of the dump truck.

Caledon OPP Constable J. Shay is investigating the collision with the assistance of the OPP Highway Safety Division Collision Reconstruction Team

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
